What an improvement in the weather, quite tropical today in fact! What a day Sunday turned out with Arriva providing three Routemasters to support Wycombe's 8th Charity Running Day. This year there were three routes to sample, the 26A to New Bowerdean Road, the 41 to Ibstone and the 80 to Aylesbury. Appropriately I have covered the photos under the Arriva heading but suffice to say the sight of a Routemaster down in Ibstone was worth getting up for.
The 8th Wycombe Running Day
Timetable.
3242 operated the 80, RM 2217 the even hour service to Ibstone followed by each
odd hour 26A
and RML2524 the alternate services on the two routes.
An interesting note has been sent by Paul Coley regarding the building of a bus depot in Wycombe and I think refers to the new Arriva depot in Cressex. Work is due to start in September and the location is given as Shackleton Road. I cannot however find this road on my maps.
Work proceeds on the interchange at Lewknor and this week has seen alternate line working for the last few days. Already cars are parking in the lay-bys not making life easy for everyone, especially when parking restrictions come into force upon completion. It is surprising how many people use the stop including a number of youger people going for a night out in Oxford.
The cuttings referred to by Ed Maun
in his article below.
Ed Maun, this week, writes "There was an article about Thames Valley in the Commercial Motor dated 4th January 1952. I have attached copy of two photos from the article that are of local interest. The quality is rather poor, but you may be able to use them if you so wish. The single decker is ascending Plomer Hill (Downley Pitch to the locals) on its way to Downley on service 35 from High Wycombe Station. It is 572 FMO954 a Bristol LL6B ECW B39R, new in 1951. The double decker is in Church Street High Wycombe with McIlroys department store behind. This is the site where Marks and Spencer’s now stands including the G E Stevens corn merchants shop to the right on the corner of Priory Road. The bus is returning from Booker (Limmer Lane) to the Rail Station via the High Street and Crendon Street on service 38, and is 589 FMO971 a Bristol KS6B ECW L27/28R, new in 1950. Buses these days of course have to continue up Castle Street due to the High Street pedestrianisation. In those days most services heading westwards along the West Wycombe Road started and terminated at High Wycombe Rail Station yard."
Well on to the news of our local companies and many thanks for the continuing reports including the late ones received today..

News of the local companies – 5th September 2004
Steve Warwick was out this morning having a fine time with RM2217 on the 8th Wycombe Running Day services. As can be seen from the picture below nothing was going to detract from the pure enjoyment of what Steve was doing. Quite a change from work at Aylesbury depot.
Whilst there was only a small turn out of buses for this event the weather and routes to be sampled gave everyone who attended a great deal of pleasure.
Volvo B6 3242 was working the 80, a double decker being excluded due to a low bridge on this route. RM2217 and RML2524 operated the 26A and 41 services alternately.
I now include a selection of pictures taken on the day.
The RM again, first passing through West Wycombe,
mind that car please and second coming down from West Wycombe into the town.
RML2524 leaving Stokenchurch on the 1140 service
from Ibstone to High Wycombe.
RM6 attended the event remaining outside Newlands
Bus Station during the morning.
Carousel now operate the A40 on Sunday's and the
1315 departure is seen here leaving Wycombe.
Parking is supplemented at the old petrol station on
Bridge Street. As can be seen some buses have already
had their windows stoned, I understand one offender caught by police was under
10 !!!!
Last week I suggested that front wheel trims had been applied to the whole batch of Low floor Darts 401-410. This proves not to be the case since last Friday I saw at least 406 and 410 without same.
Dart 406 minus front wheel trims last Friday..
First of the R-reg batch of Volvo coaches to be
refurbished is nr 8. This coach has now carried THREE liveries.
The first was Oxford blue/yellow, the second VCS livery and now.......
Friday also saw an unusual working when 821 was on 4 road. This normally only
happens on Sundays.
Oxford's paint shop continues to turn out excellent
repaints. Here 635, the most recent B10B to be treated is seen on St Giles.
A surprise is the renumbering of the service fleet with the vans and certainly
this trainer acquiring 9xx series fleet numbers.
962 is seen here on training duties by one of my correspondents and was bus 645.
The last 962 was an ex London Titan.
I would appreciate any other sightings since so far there is nothing on the company web site to say what is happening and I am sure readers would be interested to know.
John Hammond wrote saying "In the picture below is a preview (pre additional painting and sign writing) of Stagecoach Midland Red's 20202 which has been painted like a C5 coach to celebrate 100 years of Midland Red. This shot was taken by me on delivery of the bus from Banbury to Rugby.
It has since been sign written and now works in service from Rugby" (I look forward to pictures of it in service Ed.)
20202 in its pseudo Midland Red livery.

In the latest Stagecoach in Oxfordshire fleet allocation 16520 is recorded as in
store at Witney for Brookes duties.
Last Friday it was operating an X31 duty, freshly turned out with centre door
removed.
I am pleased to have received the latest allocation from Stagecoach for Oxfordshire an have put this on the page this week. It is done in such a way that it can be updated easily and comments added.
Readers are invited to submit comments for inclusion and of course any changes.
Picture by John Hammond refered to below.
John Hammond writes "Attached
is a pre-registration photograph of Rugby's new MP Dart, as purchased by
Warwickshire CC in addition to the Enviro 300's
The Mini Pointer Drat at Stagecoach in Warwickshire's Rugby depot has been
registered KN04XCT and given UK Bus fleet number 34398. Capacity is B29F. It
entered service at the end of August.
It is in Warwickshire CC "CountyLinks" livery with Route 63/64 branding as per
the Enviro 300's at Rugby. It will work a fixed diagram in school term, as the
other diagram's require Enviro+ capacity for school journeys. This will leave
one of the four Transbus Enviro 300's as the daily spare Warwickshire CC low
floor vehicle for the 63/64 routes."
The new Neoplans are receiving post delivery modifications to the video monitoring system. The system, already applied to some coaches, now gives the driver a view of the upper deck which is most beneficial.
50115 has a German language WC warning on the lower deck.
Last Saturday a lady in a wheel chair travelled on
one the new Tubes to London and is seen here being helped on board.
Campbell Morrison sent further pictures more of which are to be found on his web page http://campbellsphotos.fotopic.net/c265263.html
Leslie Smith also sent some pictures of old Tubes at work in Scotland
50049 -
seen parked up at Ayr. - picture by Leslie Smith.
Campbell Morrison sent these
pictures of 50050 now repainted and branded for the X77 from Glasgow to Ayr.
Another photo by Campbell Morrison, this time a sneak preview of 50066 in
Motorvator livery.
A view of Kilmarnock workshops with several Tubes being prepared for service in
Scotland. - picture by Leslie Smith.
Motorvator starts tomorrow and Campbell will be on hand to record the event.
It would be interesting to receive a report of any of the journeys in Scotland worked by these coaches and the impressions of our friends north of ther border.
Another ex HKG Olympian from Leyton garage, this time 13609 seen in Oxpens last
Saturday.
Worth's of Enstone
Worth's run the 70 service from Oxford and V9WMS is seen on the working last Friday.
